Let trans kids play! 🏳️‍⚧️🏀 This Transgender Day of Visibility, we’re speaking out in support of trans youth and their right to play sports with their friends. Since 2020, 27 states have banned trans youth from playing school sports, fueling surveillance and inviting harassment. Soon, the Supreme Court will rule in a case brought by West Virginia trying to kick 15-year-old Becky Pepper-Jackson off her school’s track team. “All I’ve ever wanted was the same opportunities as my peers. Instead, I’ve had my rights and my life debated by politicians who’ve never even met me but want to stop me from playing sports with my friends. I know this case isn’t just about me, or even just about sports. It’s just one part of a plan to push transgender people like me out of public life entirely. I’m proud to stand up…for what I believe and who I am and I want other transgender kids to know they aren’t alone.” – Becky Pepper-Jackson, plaintiff in West Virginia v. B.P.J. Last month, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) proposed new rules that would restrict transgender youth’s access to medically necessary care. One proposal would put Medicare and Medicaid funding at risk for hospitals that provide gender-affirming care to trans and nonbinary youth under 18. Another would block Medicaid and CHIP from covering this care for young people under 18 and 19. These proposals are not yet in effect, but they would cause serious harm if finalized. We can push back by submitting public comments to CMS. Visit the guide in our bio on submitting public comments to learn how to take action—comments must be submitted by Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
